|
Hollis, is a town right on the Massachusetts border, resting beside the busy city of Nashua, within an hour of Boston and only thirty minutes from Manchester. It is also a few scant minutes from a major highway system leading to the mountains and lakes of New Hampshire, to the seashore, and to the cities.
A town enriched with fertile land, entwined by country roads; enchanted by quaint antique shops; enhanced by the sweet smell of peach and apple blossoms; enlivened by summer flea markets and envied by visitors.
A town with nearby shopping facilities, great schools (over 90% of high school graduates continue on to higher education), wonderful recreational facilities, a great state park with 1,000 feet of sandy beach and thousands of acres of conservation land.

Origin: Incorporated in 1746 by Governor Benning Wentworth, the town takes its name from a very old English family. Governor Wentworth's ancestor, Thomas Wentworth, first Earl of Strafford, was married to Arabella Holles, daughter of John Holles, Earl of Clare. Hollis was first called West Dunstable, or Nittisset, which at one time was part of Groton, Massachusetts, and is now Nashua.
