Milford

Because many early residents had to "ford the river at the mill" to attend church, the town was named Milford when it was incorporated nearly two hundred years ago.

Today, Milford is a healthy and delightful residential community that offers a pleasant and engaging lifestyle to its residents.

The educational program throughout the town's five-school system is excellent. Recreational facilities, including parks, playgrounds, tennis courts, and a swimming pool are well utilized and well maintained.

Milford serves as the shopping center for surrounding towns, and enjoys the added convenience of a variety of shopping and other benefits in the nearby busy cities of Nashua and Manchester.

Today Milford still retains its lovely country atmosphere and its pleasant way of life.

And it's not necessary to remove your shoes and "ford the river at the mill" to get around town - that is, unless you choose to do so on a warm and quiet Sunday afternoon.

It was separated from the town of Monson, which ended up on the Massachusetts side of the border. Milford is also known as the Granite Town, because of extensive high-quality granite quarries.
